CANADA ; Dr. Avnish Jolly : June 17 :=====Around 800 guests attended the 11th annual breakfast fundraiser in support of The Westland Foundation Education Fund, on June 21st, 2017 at RBC Convention Center, Winnipeg organised by The Westland Foundation.
Westland Foundation has been helping students by providing them with scholarships for the post-secondary education for Winnipeg students. It helps to access to a broader spectrum of career options and increased qualifications to successfully compete for jobs and promotions. Post-secondary education is a dream of a student. It is required for a decent job, a just society, and must be available to all. Post-secondary education must be strengthened to grow our economy and invest in Canada's future.
As more Winnipeg students pursue post-secondary studies, there will be social and economic spin-off benefits throughout Winnipeg neighbourhoods. In addition, scholarship graduates will be role models for future students. To date, 505 Westland Scholars have earned scholarships in excess of $259,500.00. The Westland Foundation Fund currently at $ 1.8 million.
In the key note address Mr. Sandy Riley advocated that we must invest in the young generation for the community development. Mr. Riley strongly believes that there is dire need of skill development in youngsters to become successful in their adulthood. He also believes that the “can-do” attitude of Winnipeggers makes them different from others. People contributed generously to make such projects successful.
In the concluding remarks Mr. John Prystanski, Founder, President & Director Westland Foundation shared that he wants to support every child in Winnipeg who dreams to pursue for post-secondary education and he has been working on it with the support of likeminded people and other associates. On this occasion Mr. Prystanski also asked the audience to come forward to help the aboriginal children. He thanked the sponsors, participants, volunteers and the individuals who contributed to the cause of the Westland Foundation and make the breakfast successful event.
